Our human bodies only have a limited glycogen storage in our liver and muscles as far as I know, so when you enter the gangr you have a very limited energy storage, so glycogen alone can never be the source of when we go berserk for 30 minutes. We do have a lot of energy in the form of fat on our bodies, but fat is slow burning and cant be used when we shown superhuman strengt abilities... or am I missing something here?

I would definitely recommend speaking to Wayland about this one, as the science side has a tendency to make my eyes roll back a bit, and I know he has looked further into this than most. However, as a short answer from my experience it comes from within. Just like cardio or weight lifting, a beginner doesnt go up to the bench or go to deadlift with an enormous amount of weight. You start small, and work on it over time, achieving that unitary state. Practice meditation. Practice clearing your mind. Practice funneling any pain you feel into the gangr within, however you picture it as long as it works. Destroy the self as it will not be necessary. How far have you gotten into actualizing it? Are you still finding the gangr or preparing for initiation?

As far as I understand I should first try to learn to go in a trance before try to reach a unitary state.. For 1,5 year now I meditate daily and can relax my body and mind, but still not enough to go in a real trance.. I do experience every month this short gangr flashes but cannot control them.. Its to bad that I do not know ant people in my country that can guide me and translate and explain what to do exactly..

I definitely understand, I think its difficult too because there arent many words for what we can do that are left over from that time. If there is anything specific I can try my best to explain differently. The trance for me is sometimes easier then the meditation. I think it is generally the same concept, but for the trance I usually focus on something extremely hard that is vague, and lose track of who I am or what I can physically see. Imagine a dog chewing a bone, it is mindless intensity, where their eyes arent seeing anything but they are still chewing the bone. I envision putting myself in that state, then causing or thinking about pain usually initiates it. It allows my body to react without my control over it. Not sure if that makes much sense, Im not great at describing it. You will know what I mean as soon as you feel it, like an adrenaline rush but longer.

It is connecting to the Web. Reaching out to the "ether" as some call it. We are swimming in energy. We are more than we comprehend. Connecting with the web and drawing down. It is a technique used by many, including myself for healing. Having a strong spiritual practice I find strengthens this connection and ability to connect.

Another term would be the utgard, which is somewhat tough to explain, but essentially means outside of your realm of awareness, as it is connected to Midgard and Asgard. Energy beyond what you normally experience, something from "outside", but not nature exactly.

Thank you all for your responses, I guess I shouldnt think to scientific with this, because then I would set for myself limitations.

While I do agree with parts of Fridlah's answer, a lot of it comes from getting to know your body and mind. Your ego, your self, acts as sort of an inbetween from the two, but removing it from your thoughts is tough but worth it. It is weak most of the times or may want to quit, but when you separate it from your selves, it is hugely beneficial to reaching altered states.

Hello Bertje,
Well, the science of this is not something I have studied very deeply, but let me describe it to you as best I can. When in a berserk state, the heart rate is so fast that the glycogen stored throughout the body is converted in blood glycogen with unusual efficiency. Furthermore, in this state, the muscles start relying on fatty acids as fuel more, further increasing capacity. Also, experienced berserks will carbo-load before such exertions, which increases glycogen reserves by a lot. Additionally, muscle tissue itself can be broken down for more fuel.
Also, if you would take my advice, ALWAYS think scientifically. Just remember that scientific theories are only theories, and may not have the complete picture. This way, you avoid limiting yourself and still benefit from knowledge and rational thinking.

When all the glycogen stores are converted to glucose and are dumped in our veins for energy, our bloodsugar will be dangerously high, and a normal person would die... but because of the strengtened PSNS, a berserker will not experience the same.
As far as I understand, a muscle will always burn a mixture of glucose and fat, fast explosive movements burn more glucose and a little fat, slow easy movements burn more fat and a little glucose.
Normaly it is a slow process for the body to convert energy from fat stores, but maybe because of the strengtened PSNS this process is much faster when entering a berserker state...
Hmm I think their is indeed enough energy then for fuel if we look at it this way.
Burning muscle for fuel is of course not what we want, I know from research that when our glycogen stores are empty (from fasting or exercise etc..) our body will start burning fat, but also muscle, and even organ tissue for energy! But this process can be stopped when ingesting a little sugar, your body will then use the mix between glucose and fat again, but when the glucose is empty, fat and muscle will be next again...

Remember also that the increased strength does not come solely from increased energy output. After studying those in the state for over a decade, I am convinced that a lot of it comes from reduced tension in the antagonist muscles and improved coordination and efficiency for all movements. These things allow for a much greater effective strength to be drawn out of the same amount of energy.

Exactly. Think of it like this, when you have the heightened awareness things come much easier to you, both mentally and physically. You can respond quicker, and with less energy needed then if you consciously did something. You get into this state of hyperawareness of your body being linked directly to your reflexes, rather then through your brain. You run on instinct but more then instinct, a made up term would be hyper-instinct if I had to use one. It will become clearer the more you erase your ego and learn how to react without worrying about death or bodily harm, as youll want to try and defend rather then be aggressive. Youll want to defend the "you" within, and getting rid of that link will help you achieve that. The term "going berserk", at least in english, has always implied an absolute abandon of the self and worries of bodily harm, and being overly aggressive on a huge scale. I hope that helps, kinda rambling because I have a tough time putting it into words.

Hey Instinkt, Based on the sources from the Sagas and such, I can think of an instance of this. In Egil's Saga, Egil was said to show ursine and lupine characteristics during a competition. Also, before I sort of balanced out and settled fully upon being an Ulfhedinn with the wolf as my fylgur, I used to sometimes feel the ursine rage. I'm in construction and once it started coming out as I was ripping old siding off an apartment complex. I was getting angry, frustrated, and getting cut. It wasn't my typical wolf-like anger and when I realized I was entering the gangr, I began to purposefully channel it, which helped very nicely with the task at hand. Based upon the aforementioned Saga and my personal experiences, I'd say experiencing both animal frenzies isn't unknown. Maybe you'll balance out and settle down on a more personal fylgur or maybe you'll continue to use both or one or the other as the situation dictates.
