Now that we are finally into fall and winter up here I can feel everything rising to the surface again. Its an amazing feeling and one I will have to practice in the dead of summer channeling.

Red I have this connection with dogs since I can remember... Last time I spoted a wolf was in 2008.
It's interesting because I kinda realized that I can easily scare horses, even police horses gets agitate when I look at them... I think they can sense a predator thing in me

Arngrim - I can feel the change coming as well, finally. Camping season has arrived for me and if I feel ready enough, I'll do an initiation ritual early next year. We'll see though. I may not be prepared enough. Some ways of helping the gangr in summer is to get outside at night. That's the one amazing thing about summer is the stars and the black darkness of night. You could even try a biphasic sleep pattern or Farely Mowatt’s “wolf naps,”or just go for a run around or walk in the woods at night before bed. That's what I used to do when I was a kid and now in adulthood it also makes the night feel longer before work the next day. Also cold showers are helpful as we discussed and minor controlled outbursts of the gangr, but still, I may end moving to a place where the summer holds less of a sway.
Mutz - That thing about the horses is very, very interesting and I’m jealous of the fact that you’ve starred a police horse down, but as this is not a political site, I’ll say no more of this, but I’m always very interested to know what modern pagan’s beliefs are concerning government or tribe. The animal connection seems to have to do with not only a predatory feeling, but also one of looking down on or up to certain types of animals. It depends on how you look at and think of the animal that will effect them. They can sense the vibe. Similarly, when I stalked deer as a kid, I noticed that they’d sense my presence only when I thought about them to much or my predatory connection to them. It also happened when I stared at them to long. They’d jerk their heads up and look around, because in that moment they could sense my presence. I used to experiment with this when I was kid in crowds of people. Focus staring at one person and their instincts will eventually kick in and they’ll start looking around nervously. It was a good way to find out who had good instincts and who didn’t. Some people were super fast. It’s like that feeling of being watched when you’re out in the woods. Rupert Sheldrake has talked about this before as do certain Amerindians, Eskimo, and the famous bow hunter Cameron Hanes. They say never to look your prey the eye if you’re trying to be discrete, but look just to the side of them. I grew up in the country with cats and dogs and earned a respect for both. Now that I live in an apartment in town, definitely not by choice I may add, I have cats come out of nowhere to say hi to me on my occasional, nightly walks around town. It doesn’t make much sense to me, besides that I feel compassion for them. Maybe it’s some connection to the Great Goddess, Freya as is one of her pantheistic manifestations. She's associated with cats and their zen-like state of consciousness. Othin had a massive respect for the Goddess and her arts of seidr as well. I don’t know, coyotes and wolves eat barn cats all the time around here in the country, let alone those Dogman sightings. Not very wolfish of me, but when you’re feeling down, try petting a cat. Definitely like dogs as well and I feel a connection with many of them, except for “kick dogs,” namely the very small annoying variety which seemed to hate and be fearful of me. Over time I’ve learned to think of them as simply being poor little mutations devised by comfortable, wealthy humans, so I pity them now and they’ve been responding better to me in like turn. Wolves have a love/hate connection to dogs, kind of like brothers I guess. In general, all animals seem to respond to, for lack of better words, vibes or minor telepathic signals.

Aggressive when hungry? Guilty as charged...
Being between my food and me is not a smart thing.

First solo overnight for winter camping this season accomplished! Feels great. If you don't have the appropriate equipment for spending a night, I recommend just going out and trying to start a fire and hang around it for a few hours before heading back home. It really helps. I did that many a weekend in winter, before I got the stuff I needed to spend a night out in winter. It feels primal I guess is the word for it. The silence, cold, fresh air and hypnotic movement of the fire helps me relax and recharge.

Fire building and being out in nature away from people as much as possible is definitely a beneficial thing. It can be rough and difficult, but it makes you feel like you accomplished something when you get back and that you are going out of your way to face the trials of nature that everyone else shies away from in their cities on their comfortable couches with tv, if I may use that stereotype. Nothing better than being out in harsh nature on a mountain, looking down on the twinkling lights of a city at night. You're here pushing yourself and facing hardship by choice and they're there in comfort and warmth, so small and insignificant. As a confession, I actually suck at lighting a fire in the woods without matches and didn't even get one going this particular overnighter. I fasted beforehand though for a total of about 36 hours and trudged up a really small mountain in a foot of snow, in which I sank every step. I was weak from hunger, but I felt really weak in that my mind wasn't helping enough to push myself forward. I had to take a break every 50 yards and was honestly disappointed in how I acted, but this is one of the many trials I feel like people need to push themselves towards so they don't atrophy and they grow more mentally even than physically stronger like the trials of a shaman.

Been thinking about different ways of using the gangr. Wayland S. mentioned healing and inspiration. Just entering a gangr will improve healing rates. For a more focused healing session, go into a deep gangr with breathing and meditation, while visualizing the area of ailment, whether that be a sore throat or a physical injury. Similarly, Wim Hof can control his adrenal system and thus fight off illnesses and viruses. The gangr can also be used to solve a problem or come up with a solution to something. I recently realized something interesting as concerns myself with this. When I was younger and even sometimes to this day, I’ll be studying something that I’m really into and writing on it and so forth and I get in this feverish excitement that I would always compare to an alchemist’s pursuit of some problem in his lonely laboratory. Often I would stop what I’m doing and do a round of push-ups as well. I’d genuinely get buzzed off moments like this and work late into the night. It feels like a caffeine dump, but is probably adrenaline. Nikola Tesla did something similar to this.

I have a tough time with the healing aspect of the gangr though I have heard it be mentioned before. It is difficult for me to focus on what is injured as when I get into that state I dont really feel pain or anything, and thinking about anything outside of it can take me out of the gangr. I have to get better at maintaining an iron control on it to be able to do that. I also admittedly havent tried very hard at the healing aspect.

just learned of the gangr and my berserker nature last week, took forever to find any resources.
firstly, when i was young I had mad fits of rage, i am told my mother and sitser say that when i was little i was so mad i knocked a door down, throughout the years i had many times that i tossed my brothers across the living-room or things like that, i eventually unknowingly trained my stress response to flight rather than fight, the first instance, i ran down a highway barefoot for several hours, i don't really recall the initial start of most instances, just being exhausted and trying to find my way home, i am new to somafera and need some advice so i can rewire my stress response back to fight and to gain control so i dont wind up in prison.
if you know of any additional resources that would be amazing

Hey Hraf, good to see new people still waking up to the gangr. As you can see by some of the post dates, some people have drifted away or stopped checking in.
There are many resources that could help you but the first one I would suggest is putting on the wolf skin by wayland skallagrimsson. It is a very good primer and one I reread pretty often.
My best advice is to start slow. What triggers these fits of rage can be different for everyone, but for me its always pain despite trying other methods. I would suggest finding yours, and starting slow. Pull your hair or beard. Claw yourself. Jerk your head around. Move. Work yourself up into a frenzy until you stop thinking about entering the frenzy and realize that you are there. Hard to explain without actually doing it but the more you practice the easier it will become. When you hit a clear but hyper focused state you will know that you are there. Dont think about it or try to force it to continue as it may be short bursts at force. Just let yourself be consumed by it
